Tracy Briggs — Candidate for Mayor
A current Board Member who is deeply committed to Fairport's continued vitality and to meaningful, two-way community engagement.
Tracy Briggs has called Fairport home for most of her life. With fond memories of growing up in the Village — a place she describes as truly magical — Tracy and her husband chose Fairport as the place to raise their family and make their forever home. Tree-lined streets, outstanding parks, vibrant festivals, and a strong sense of community make Fairport the place she loves.
After 35 years as an educator, Tracy brings deep experience in leadership and collaboration. She served in numerous leadership roles including building and district councils, department chair, and vice president of the teachers union, where she negotiated contracts and working conditions. Throughout her career, she worked collaboratively with administration, teachers, parents, students, and community members to develop policies and practices that serve the entire school community.
For the past three years, Tracy has served Fairport residents as an elected Village Board Trustee — a responsibility she takes very seriously. She has built strong relationships with residents, business owners, festival organizers, the Fairport Perinton Merchants Association, the NYS Canal Corporation, and the Fairport Partnership. Tracy is running for Mayor because she believes the best solutions come from working together, and that residents deserve leadership that is collaborative, thoughtful, and data-driven.
How I approach leadership:
I believe good governance starts with strong relationships — with Village staff, first responders, and community partners — and with a process residents can trust. I support thoughtful, strategic and incremental growth that fits Fairport's character, protects neighborhoods and green space, and aligns infrastructure with reality. We believe residents should be engaged early and often, not brought in after decisions are effectively made.
Above all, I want Fairport residents to feel proud of how decisions are made — even when those decisions aren't easy.

I have lived in the Village of Fairport for most of my life. I have fond memories of the Village from my childhood, it was truly a magical place to grow up! The Village was always clean, safe, full of families, and had lots of open spaces to explore while maintaining a strong sense of community and belonging. As an adult, Fairport offers tree lined streets, sidewalks with street lights, a private police force, fire department, public utilities, library, historical museum, festivals, parades, a great public school system and outstanding parks and recreation programming- the list of things to love about Fairport for me truly goes on and on! My husband and I chose Fairport as the place to raise our family and made it our forever home.
I retired from teaching after 35 years. During my tenure in education, I served in many leadership roles both on a building and district wide level. I served on building councils, district councils, have mentored colleagues, been department chair, and have been developing and implementing programming. I worked collaboratively and cooperatively with administration, teachers, parents, students and community members to develop policies and practices that best serve the entire school community. I also served as vice president of the teachers union and negotiated many contracts and working conditions for our membership. I have the professional skills and experience to continue my public service career for village residents as our Fairport Mayor.
For the last 3 years I have served the residents of Fairport as an elected official, a Trustee on the Village Board. This is a responsibility I take very seriously. The residents trust that I will listen to them, advocate for them, to be their voice and to serve as their liaison in local government, and I do my best to be faithful and diligent in my role as trustee. For the past three years, I have taken the time to establish relationships with residents, property owners, business owners, festival organizers, county and regional tourism organizations, the Fairport Perinton Merchants membership, the Partnership, and the Canal Corporation. In this way, I have established the relationships needed to effectively and successfully lead as the Mayor of Fairport.
As Village Trustee I have attended numerous conferences & workshops to learn about governance to better serve our community. Some of the educational programming I've participated in includes open meeting law, open government, first amendment rights, home rule, strategic planning, fiscal responsibility, budgeting, infrastructure, insurance & liability, fire departments, as well as sidewalks, walkability and place making. I believe I have developed the background skills, abilities, and knowledge to lead our community as the Mayor of Fairport in this consideration as well.
I believe our community will be best served with leadership that is collaborative, thoughtful with data based decisions, where public service is prioritized, and the residents feel valued and heard. This is an exciting time for Fairport, the most magical place in my heart, and I am ready for the role. I respectfully seek your support to be your Mayor as we all continue to plan for Fairport's future.
